Data wipe-out verification

Category: Software Basics

After data wipe-out process completion, the verification is performed. It means reading of all addressable drive sectors and comparing the content with the pattern used for erasing. In case of multi-pass wipe-out with pattern reversal, the verified pattern is the one that was overwritten most recently.

After the correct verification system generates a report summarizing the process and saves it in the zero sector of the drive (MBR). The report is displayed on the screen of the monitor during the attempt to start the computer from the wiped drive. This means, in the event of using an external device for data wipe-out verification, this device should allow for skipping the verification of the drive’s zero sector (MBR).

Next, the system sends server the information about successful drive wipe-out along with information on hardware configuration of the computer, which was subject to the process; the mechanism, as well as date and time of the beginning and end of the data erasing process.

All those information are placed on the certificate confirming data wipe-out.
