Operating with error containing disks

Category: Software Basics

In case of disk containing errors diagnosed by S.M.A.R.T. system, the system will inform operator about such case before WIPE process.

The mechanism implemented in the system takes into account following S.M.A.R.T. attributes of listed limit values, if these are exceeded the disk is excluded from the process:

Attribute ID Attribute Name Limit Value
5 Reallocated Sectors Count Configurable (default 0)
184 End-to-End error/IOEDC 0
196 Reallocation Event Count Configurable (default 0)
197 Current Pending Sector Count Configurable (default 0)
198 Uncorrectable Sector Count Configurable (default 0)

Configurable value means that the system operator may set the attribute value excluding the drive. The default value is set to 0.

ATTENTION: A change in the configurable attribute values to the value other than 0 should be done only if such possibility is approved by the inner safety procedures/ policies of the organization.

If the disks do not support above mentioned attributes and the general drives condition evaluation is set on critical level - operator is informed about that case before WIPE process. Information about condition will also be saved in report.
